Privatbrauerei Bolten "Richrath's Original Landbier"
,33cl brown glass swing-top bottle coded "Mindestens haltbar bis Ende: 03/22 L0609211918". Sampled on 28 September 2021
Notes: This beer is brewed for the REWE Richrath supermarket chain, and they donate one cent for every bottle sold to Dat Kölsche Hätz e.V., a charity for children with cancer. It's a wheat beer, but it's not a hefeweizen as it doesn't use that yeast. It is an ale, however.
Look: Yeast and lees are visible at the bottom of the bottle, and some of those may be carried over to the glass. It's a hazy golden/amber in color benath a short head of white foam. The head retention and lacing are both limited.
Smell: Simply wheaty malt. It's very wheaty and lightly sweet. Only hop extract is used in its production.
Taste: Sweet, wheaty, grainy with a little bit of apple-like fruitiness. Moderately bitter with a soft, smooth, semi-dry finish that leaves some sweetish and wheaty malt lingering shortly.
Feel: Medium bodied with restrained, fine-bubbled natural carbonation that lends a soft caress to the tongue before becoming smooth and creamy. This explains the lack of head retention.
Overall: This is a very simple, but also really unique and charming beer that's incredibly quaffable and highly enjoyable.
