Smells like your typical belgian beer but that's where it ends for me.

The taste is nothing like the real belgian beers, it's fruity and sour.

Got this out of their mixed 6pack and was not impressed by the whole deal. This one is no exception. Forced it down and regretted it.

Final thoughts : Try this beer or any from this brewer if you like trying new beers but it does not reflect the taste you would get out of a real belgian.

12oz Bottle

Appearance - The beer pours a slightly hazy pale straw yellow colour with a fairly large frothy/fizzy white head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing, and there is some faint lacing. The head stuck around for a few minutes before it was gone.

Smell - lemon juice, breads/grains, pale malts

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation on the tongue. The beer has a full bodied taste; unfortunately it isn't a good taste. There is a strong lemon/citrus acid flavour and some white grape juice and a pepper spice mix. I can put my finger on exactly what it is, but there is something not right about the flavour. It seems very unbalanced. It finishes with a bitter lemon after taste.

Drink - This beer might appeal to some, but it is not for me. I would not seek it out again.

This beer is from a six-pack of mix beer. 341 ml brown bottle.

Very clear beer with a thick white head. It has a nice spice aroma. The mouth is as clean as the appearance. Even with some age this beer is very good. I drank it some years ago and it's still a nice brew. One of the good product from this inconsistent brewer.

Head recedes to pretty much nothing. Not much retention, no lacing. The beer is translucent and the colour of honey. This is certainly not a dark ale, the bottle even says pale ale.

Pleasant enough smell, though not too strong: doughy wheat, citrus, honey, light hops.

A little too sweet, though still drinkable. Not very interesting but again, nice enough: honey and light wheat make the strongest showings. The finish is short and sweet. This beer is bordering on being too sweet but doesn't quite cross the line. The label says that it's "all natural" and it actually does taste pretty fresh and "natural". Light and refreshing for a 7%, the alcohol slipping by unnoticed.

Decent feel; slightly creamy medium body with a medium-light carbonation. Fits the flavour well.

This is drinkable, though I don't think I'll be buying it again. I feel like it could be significantly better on tap, I'd definitely check it out if I run into this at a bar. Nice, not great.

Okay its time. Thanks to DrJay for sharing this with me 3 years ago. It's been a journey since then, and I finally feel like I can make sense of this beer once and for all.

Pours a clear golden/orange, nice and bright, small white head forms, fluffy, leaves no lace and disappears to a thin ring. Smell is odd, riesling, white grapes, pissy cat litter. Taste is a touch of citrus and peanut butter with some light sourness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation, quite dry in the finish. I couldn't believe what I was smelling. It really smelled like ammonia filled pissy cat litter. We tested it by smelling Jay's cats litter box. Dead ring. And even stranger was how much like peanut butter it tasted. I've been mulling for 3 years what to give this beer because it was so strange and confusing, really challenged my palate. So the saga ends, thanks Jay!

12oz bottle purchased from Metro Joanette in Montreal. No date indications found. Pours a cloudy light gold. Encouragingly strong yeasty aroma. First taste is rather tart - a bit lemony. Taste is a just slightly on the light side with some elements of a wit bier. Some nice fruity elements to round it out. Decent.

Another one from the Schoune sampler. So far it's been two good one so so and now an almost good with La Belge. It comes on strong with a very fruity taste and leaves with a bitterness. it's enjoyable but will take me some getting used to. i much prefer Blanche de Chambly or Mill Street's Wit beer.

In general I'd say this was a good beer. I noticed a bit of fruitiness in the smell which also appeared to my delight in the taste. As far as looks go it was ok, could have had some more head in my opinion, but hey it had a nice full taste...in fact it was a bit heavy so I wouldn't drink too many of these at once and risk tipping over.

This beer had a very strong tasting body, almost a little tough to swallow. Taste was good, but something about it made it overbearing. The hints of spice and possibly fruit made it very promising, but I got a yeasty power feel from it. It's worth trying and a good excuse to go to Montreal and the Paradise of Beers convenience store.

This is my first review here at this extraordinary site.

A - Cloudy, tawny orange hue, dirtied slightly, with a one finger effervescent head that quickly disperses into nearly nothing - only the slightest, half-hearted lacing is visible. Not bad looking, just lackluster.

S - Almost Weizen-like, banana yeast, acidic like a cider, some unidentifiable funkyness, but the smells do not coalesce in the right way. It made me cautious about tasting. But no matter.

T - Very different: the significant sweet/sour mix is most noticeable at first, then tropical fruits - maybe papaya and a slight bit of mango. Not what I would have expected. Then it's apple time - right through to the finish, more like a pasteurized juice than a cider. In the strangest way, there is definitely some sort of Lambic/barnyard thing happening here. I like Gueuze and Lambic quite a lot, but this is just out of place. The flavors do not blend here, and leave me puzzled. This is missing the depth and richness that can make strong Belgians so alluring. Not bad, but disappointing - something is just not right.

M - High carbonation makes what I suspect would otherwise be quite a thin beer somewhat acceptable. Leaves a puckered feeling in the mouth, although it's not sour enough to be truly called 'puckering'.

D - It's taking me a while to finish this one. Its qualities mix in a way so strange that I wouldn't consider doing anything but slowly sipping it.

Belgian Strong Dark Ale? It seems like a stretch to apply that style here, and certainly in a stylistic context, this beer fails. Considered on it's own merits, it does indeed have appealing qualities, and it is certainly interesting - but I don’t mean it is a complex brew - it’s simply confounding. In the end, the fact remains that I would not buy this again.

Sweet creamy Belgian, very quaffable on a summer day. Creamy blonde, yeasty and maybe some wheat, candi. Underated as a beer, though not best its style. Pepper, lemon though no significant astringency. Good head. SO sweet a fruit fly nosedived and drowned in it.

Clear yellow with a faint haze topped by a thin, white head that produced a bit of lacing. White wine grape/cider aroma with some breadiness. Sharp, lemony citrus is present too, along with some musty earthiness. The flavour starts out cidery with low bitterness. The middle is mostly sweet, but there's a bit of sourness here as well. It finishes with a distinct peanut butter flavour and dry citrus. Highly attenuated and slightly slick. Quite a unique beer. I'm still not sure whether I liked it, but it was interesting enough for me to keep sipping it, trying to find out.

Slightly hazed gold in color, with traces of red and a thinnish off-white head. Slightly tangy aroma belies what is actually a nicely rounded body. Flavor starts off with a somewhat sharp tang, but develops into a sweet, peachy middle. Lots of trppical-like fruits in the mid-palate -- perhaps some mango? By the end, the initially tanginess has mellowed almost completely, and the drinker is left with a pleasant floral hop flavor. The slightly creamy mouthfeel also helps to ease the sharper elements of the flavor, without diminishing them entirely. Very, very yummy.

Red Amber in color, a good head, but unfortunately it had no retention unlike some of BA's here got. A well spiced aromas, not much of distinction, just spicy. A well hidden hidden, doesnt show the alcohol content, the spices that you smell and not present in the beer, an after taste is also present, but I cannot identify it, it made me think likes its coriandre or something but I couldnt put my finger on. The best brew by Schoune so far.

Pour a golden colour brew with a nice big head that persisted for a long time (I hadn't had a great head like this in a long time). Light taste of spice, but there could have been a more complex mix of spice for my taste. The alcohol is well hidden. I also noticed a lot of lees at the bottom of the bottle. This is a good one from Schoune.

Bought at Marché du Boisé (boul. des Forges, T-R), 6/11/03, stored cool dark, 2600 miles in my trunk.

Huge, huge (huge), cream-colored, noisy, coarse head. Sticky, thick lacing. Hazy orange/amber beer with chunks and swirls on last pour. Spice and citrus on the nose, sweet fruit. Sweet spiciness in the front. Buttery, fizzy, tingly middle shows major bananas at temperature. Some alcohol on the finish, and a little sour when cold, turning to a nice warming alcohol sensation as the beer relaxes.

This is a decent beer when cool, but an amazing transformation takes place at about 55F. The alcohol harshness turns off and the smooth, buttery, nuttiness kicks in. An awesome brew when warm.

A cloudy orange, tinge of brown, pour with a nice foamy head. Semi-sweet caramel nose. Again, the taste was also semi-sweet and hinted with caramel & maple. An almost chewy, fudge-like finish that i didn't find too sweet. Short lived aftertaste. There was something missing though. I think the flavours disappeared too quickly.
