12oz bottle purchased for $2.29 at Metro Joanette in Montreal. Consumed shortly after purchase in Feb 08, but no freshness date provided. Pours a fabulous cloudy gold. Appears to have been bottle conditioned. Aroma is on the light side, but what is there is yeasty and a bit spicy. First taste has that yeastiness and spices that I associate with some other Quebecois beers like Unibroue, but on the lighter note. It's a decent beer, but it lacks the 'oomph'-y goodness of some of its better brethren.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pours a clear gold with a very spritzy character. Short-lived head that settles to a film and gives spotty lace. My immediate impression is of a cider in its general appearance and from its fresh, fruity aroma.

Cider-like is a fairly good description for this beer. It has a slightly sparkling mouth feel, but lacks the sour back bite of a cider. Fruity and slightly sweet, not a ton by way of hop or malt character. No overbearing alcohol despite being 8%. Nicely done that way.

Refreshing, good summer beer maybe.

I found this in a gourmet store in Mexico City -- an area with a huge dearth of microbrew imports. The place of origin is just marked as 'Que.', which I thought to be the Mexican city of Queretaro, but after I got home I realized it to be Quebec.

Loved the beer! Fruity and a little sweet, like a combination of a belgian white and a lambic, though less heavy than that would be. The head pours huge and lasts for 5 minutes+. Color is rich and golden and more than a little cloudy. Aroma is peaches, pears, honey, spices, yeast, and a tiny bit of lemon. Not much hops flavor, but that's OK by me.

8% ABV, but it doesn't taste like it -- very easy to drink and I could have a couple of 'em.

Served in a glass pint. Look: yellow nectar color, cloud at the surface and some shining on the surface, the foamy head begins fat but finish very thin; Smell, collecting spices and citrus hops; Taste is wheat-spices, mixed with floral, herbal and citrus hops, very good mix; Mouthfeel: clean with dry dyes, high bitterness with some sour-spicy finish, medium body and low carbonation, seem to have half the alcohol that has; Drinkability: the best beer that hides its alcohol concentration, I liked the mixture of hops and spices.

Great pour of a murky tan, with a fluffy head and good lacing.

Smell is spicy, of course; some Belgian nose here, yeasty, to say the less.

Taste is puzzling; a little hops, some other herbs. Nice actually.

Mouthfeel is fresh, somehow rounded, despite the lack of a hoppy profile.

Drinkability? Well, I'll buy me a few more. But with it's 8% ABV it's not your afternoon one-after-another beer. ;-)

A - Dark yellow and hazy with some nice lacing and heavy carbonation.
S - Smells mostly of hemp and marijuana. Red apples and dark berries are also detectable through the alcohol which only gets stronger as it warms.
T - Lots of sweet fruit taste with hints of spice and cinnamon, pears, plums, and fresh apple pie all wrapped around a nice bready malt center. A note of hops comes in to deliver a bit bitterness and finishes this beer quickly.
M - Quite tingly, but good.
D - I could probably have a few of these.

A: Golden-bronze with plenty of particulate floating about; pours with an off-white head; absolutely no retention or lace.

S: Festive spicing (I can detect cinnamon, but the others spices only add a subtle depth to the aroma). Cotton-candy fruity esters & a little toffee sweetness.

T: Individual spices are subtle, adding a pleasant depth to the flavour (I'm guessing cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and a hint of cloves). Light caramel sweetness is perfectly balanced by the light bitterness. Alcohol is remarkably well-hidden (I'd guess under 6.5), with only a slight warmth.

M: Light to moderate body (really well-attenuated), average carbonation, dry finish.

D: Easily approachable & digestible, but with the alcohol & spices, it's definitely not something to session.

Poured out a golden color with a thick luscious white head, generous lacing and wicked stability. The nose is spicy, and pungent with sourness and ass. Deep raisin and prune notes, alcohol, and more ass. The taste (i'm really hoping there's no ass here) sweet, mollasses, caramel, sticky burnt sugar, and alcohol. Woo hoo, no ass here. Has aslightly sticky mouthfeel, not terribly carbonated. Somewhat drinkable, but it's one and done for me.

Golden-red ale, good head retention and lacing. Smells like a Schoune, spice, neutral malt and herbal hops, some burt caramel notes. Nice malt flavor, spices and sugars. Delicate bitter aftertaste, yum. Cabonisation is strong but does not interfere with beer's profile. Light mouthfeel, smooth alchohol burn make you realise the 8% abv.

Cideriness and lemony, this tastes like a cantilon mixed with some aged Unibroue yeast. Bit of yeast and apple juice aroma. Not as harsh as a cantillon. Worked in a meal, to cleanse the palate of fishy taste. Momentary fizzy head, notional hop, some malts. Was this bottle infected?

Bottle: Poured a golden beer that is extremely hazy with great carbonation and a nice head with standard retention. Aroma is quite spicy with some small notes of malts being noticeable. Taste is like a Belgian ale with some emphasis on the spice. There is so much that it is difficult to distinguish. Alcohol is not noticeable and overall I think this is a great different tasting beer. I also noticed that Schoune has improved their bottling since I rarely find infected bottle anymore.
