Poured from a 341ml. bottle.

Appearance: A generous, light tan head that doesn't last too long. Body is amber colored.

Smell: Maple, malt and caramel.

Taste: Caramel malt, bland spices, some maple. Not bad.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, good carbonation.

Overall: It's alright but it's unremarkable enough so as to be forgotten.

I had this with my brother in law, we split a 341 ml bottle into two pints.
It smelled like caramel but unfortunately no hops came out.
The appearance was a red amber color with a great head that lasted a few minutes.
The taste was very malty, and most of the noticeable flavors were caramel/maple but it wasn't overpowering.
Mouthfeel was good with nice carbonation
Overall a good beer worth trying, although I noticed it takes some getting used too since it is not your typical red amber ale, it is in fact much more malty and less bitter. Yes I know the style on beeradvocate is Dubbel but the bottle indicates a red amber ale and a alcool content of 6.90%...

Appearance - The beer pours a clear amber/red colour with a fair size fizzy white head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing. There is also some faint lacing and the head lasted for a few minutes time before it dissipated.

Smell - a rustiness, toasted malts, citrus zest

Taste & Mouth - There is a lot of carbonation on the tongue and the first and most noticeable flavour is lemon juice. The beer also has a sort of rusty taste. Also notable is a nuttiness, and roasted/toasted malts. It finishes with a bitter lemon juice aftertaste. It really has an odd flavour..

Drink - Not a good beer.. and not something I'd seek out again.

Look: Very thick consistency, cloudy brown color, some yellow flashes, the foamy head is thin and fine; Smell: Citric with scents of maple syrup, orange and apple; Taste: Honey, roasted malt, toffee and sugar, some spicy hops at the finish; Mouthfeel: Bitter sweet, the flavor lingers, robust body and medium carbonation, i dont distinguish the alcohol strength; Drinkability: Simply is very good.

Fortunatly I have some comments from a previous tasting, because this beer is not that fresh. It has a nice colour, copper hue, the head is beige, thin but still present 10 minutes after the pour. The nose is acidic, but it was spicy before. The mouth has some quality still. It was a good product.

A - Clear copper with a coarse head of foam.

S - Very aromatic. Some fruit, some mild funkiness and a rich malty aroma. Little bit of chalky earthiness.

T - Heavy apple flavour and a bit of leafy hop. Tart and fruity, some citrus and lemon. A little bit rough I would say.

M - Moderate body with some astringency and medium carbonation.

D - Not overly drinkable in my books. Could use some mellowing out and more balanced flavours.

341 ml bottle. 6.9% ABV.

A- Red/Amber/Light brown colour depending on lighting. Small foamy off-white head. Somewhat cloudy from yeast. Head settles to a thin layer of foam.

S- Malt and caramel. Some dusty CO2.

T- Caramel with burnt finish. Good maltiness. Alcohol present throughout. Hops flash right before finish. Good mealtime beer with flavour to stand up to food.

MF- A little thin. But not bad at all.

D- Easy going beer with some flavour. Alcohol character a little too present though.

Nice foam at the start, reduces to a thin layer that stays until the end. Colour is more orange than red and it's cloudy. Smell a little bit caramel and fruit. Taste caramel and the taste stay for a long time. For sure i will buy this beer another time. One of the good beer from this brewery

Advertised as a red, so I was surprised by the cloudy peach colour, initial fruity yeasty taste with medium mouthfeel, and its satisfying on a hot night though lagerish metallic finish. Only a whisp crown of head. Tad of caramel malt in aroma otherwise nothing.

Bought a six pack of these on a recent trip to Ottawa (zipped over and grabbed them from a dep in Gatineau), along with a bunch of other stuff, and this is probably the best of them (other than the Unibroue 2005 and Epehemere Framboise, which I haven't tried yet).

Poured this into a standard pint glass. This beer is a cloudy, nearly opaque golden brown, with a surprisingly big fluffy head that stuck around for a while (woo!).

Scent is very nice -- sweet fruits (plums and peaches?), flowers, with a hint of alcohol (note: Although I don't have it in front of me, I could have sworn the bottle said this beer was 6.7%, rather than the 7.5% reported here on BA. Could be wrong though.)

Flavour is nice, if a bit bland, and those hints of alcohol in the smell don't stick around long (which is a good thing). As a dubbel should be, this beer is sweet and malty, with flavours of caramel and some stronger floral essences moving in as the beer warms up. Mouthfeel is very creamy and pleasant -- probably my favourite thing about this beer -- with very low carbonation.

I've got four more of these, and am looking forward to them. I'll probably see if I can match them up with some appropriate foods, in order to bring out more flavours. I'll also be checking out more beers from Schoune the next time I'm in PQ.

Clear, light amber with an off-white head. The dense foam dissipates to a thin lace quickly and sticks to the glass quite nicely. Honey malt aroma with a generous dose of grassy hops, some citrus, and a hint of alcohol spiciness. Low bitterness lets the fruit and malt stay at the forefront. Hops are more subdued and there's a bit of spice at the midpoint. Sweet, malty finish that's got a lot of caramel and some alcohol warmth. Smooth, slightly slick texture that's just a little dry, moderately low carbonation, medium body. Fairly high residual sugar that leaves the palate a little sticky.

This beer pours a nice orange/ amber color with moderate carbonation. A bit of yeast trub escaped the lip of the bottle and added to the murk. The off-white head is dotted with clotted islands, and mantains a presence till the end.

The aroma is initially Bruin-esque - sharply sour and fruity. As the beer warms and de-gasses, the sour notes subside, and rich fruity smells take over. Distinct pineapple and mango aromas mix with hints of vanilla, with the Flemish Red sour aspect still luking in the shadows.

Fruit flavors, sweet and melon-like start off up front - a slap of acidity bites the tongue as it rolls in. A very interesting hop character washes thru the mouth, coating the roof of the mouth with "mixed berry" jelly bitterness. Full body sensed at the start, finishes medium, with a warm hop bittering and a tingle of alcohol.

A solid and unique beer with a mix of flavors a bit different from anything else Ive tasted. I think this is an interesting yeast(s) and worth culturing for a batch of Barleywine or Belgian style.

Pourred a deep murky amber brew with a huge head. Lot of carbonnation coming out of this one. Nice mixture of spice which give a good complexity to this belgian ale. Body is OK and alcohol is well hidden in the mix. Overall, a good one from this hit and miss brewery.
