11/21/16. This beer just won the silver medle at the GABF in 2016. 8% abv
Jet black with a very thin to nothing tan colored foam.
The aroma is very robust, big time dark malts, chalky, herbal, bitter earthy grass, dark chocolate and a hint of peanutbutter.
A big, earthy, bitter hop face at first until the big dark malts hit you. Mild chocolate followed by more dry earth tones from the hops. The malt has serious depth, very true to style as a burley dark brew. The malt is bakers chocolate, cocoa and graham cracker layered right up. At 8% This one makes for an excellent sipper.
The feel is medium to heavy, the malt is very deep, I would like to see a bit more foam and activity, it layed a bit flat, but the hops provide and excellent dry finish.
Certainly one of the best Elm City offerings in the last few years.
