Screw-top Elm City growler filled at the brewpub on 10/23/04, enjoyed on 10/27/04.
First imperial pint glass pours with a slightly uneven, but initially dense light brown 3/4" head, which fades rather quickly. Deeply reddish dark brown in color, and laces well, if delicately for the style. Aroma is as advertised, smells like an espresso shop. Taste is upfront slightly bittersweet coffee malts, some hops character in the middle, and fades back to the espresso flavor on the outset. Kind of impressed at how the coffee flavor doesn't blindly overpower everything else, like I've witnessed in some examples. Mouthfeel is smooth, and the drinkability is good also, especially for the style, which can get palate-tiring. Nice change of pace, try it if you happen upon it.
