Sep. 2013: 500 ml bottle, limited availability at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Batch 992. ABV is 9%. Golden colour, only a slight haziness. Huge white head. Strong aroma of spicy, herbal and grassy hops (yes, Czech Premiant) and alcohol. The flavour is sweet, alcoholic and peppery / spicy, with a sharp and medicinal bitterness in the finish. Not really my cup of tea. But I finished the bottle.

Poured into a Blanche de Namur small pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a one finger slightly off-white head with great retention and lots of lacing. Interesting aroma of orange citrus, overripe light stone fruit and mildly biscuit malt; there's a mildly estery component I just can't place. Flavor is biscuit malt, orange citrus, apricot and another exotic, but unidentifiable fruit, light earthy, grassy hops. Nice medium body with light creaminess, good mouth feel. There are some quite nice, but unusual fruit flavors from this hop variety, with some summer grassy notes. This does seem to take some of the non-hop non-malt minor flavors from a good pilsner and amplifies them the good effect. I suspect the hops are responsible for most of this, but the flavors are well integrated. A bit on the boozy side, and if if I didn't like the flavors so much, this may have been a distraction.I really liked this and it is now added to my list of good imperial pilsners, a uncommon style that I'm becoming very fond of.
