Beer of a reddish brown color and a thick yellowish bubbling foam.
It has a nice but subtle aroma, malted with distant notes of red fruits and chocolate.
Taste is malty and somewhat bitter, but nothing special.
Body and carbonation are at average lvels.
Hmm.. unfortunately I think I did not buy the best ones of Nøgne Ø..

500ml bottle. Wine glass. Dark brown color & tan head. Close, thick & lasting crown. Toasted & caramel malt, spiced & toffee aromas rounded by floral & grassy notes. Toasted, roasted & slight bitter upfront. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Oily to watery texture. Cofffe notes & floral bitterness as well as subtle dark fruit plum-likenotes arise in the middle & linger into a dried & long bitter finish. Woody hues & bitter cocoa on the aftertaste.

Pours a very dark red colour, almost the hue of a deep red wine, with a frothy head of pale beige bubbles. Lacing is strong and persistent. Body is relatively light, but the colour is extremely intense. It's a luscious looking beer, even for 4.5%.
Nose is toasty and nutty, without a lot of the promised American hop varieties. More of a round baked almond character, with a subtle roast sweetness. Slight fruity astringency to it as well, enough to pique and accent the sweet characters. Very interesting.
Taste is a bit of a let down, with a mild nothingness through the front and middle, only getting a touch of roasted grain on the back. This is very pleasant when it arrives, however, leaving a touch of grain and whiff of something dark. Feel is very light.
It's an above average beer, but not a particularly exciting one. The lightness in the body aids the drinkability, but the pleasant spice and nuttiness in the nose did not deliver on the palate. It's something of a shame.

This pours a darkish brown with a fluffy, long lasted light tan head. Good.
Very dull aroma with next to no volatiles coming through. A hint of malt.
Rounded, malty flavour with a healthy dose of bitterness to balance. There is a touch of roasty, dark malt character as well. I'm not sure what I'm looking for in this "traditional" Norwegian Christmas beer but the end result here is fairly tasty.
Medium body with moderate carbonation. Fine.
The overall result here is tasty and fairly easy to drink. It probably helps that there isn't a heap of character underlying it and I really would like a bit more punch.

This brew pours the most impressive deepest mahogany hue with beautiful carbonation that leaves a creamy, frothy two finger head and a nice ring of lacing,i really like the aroma of this brew it is ever so malty sweet yet there is there that touch of hoppy fruitness in the background very impressive, and the aroma comes thru on the taste, its like you get a little hit of malty choc/caramel sweetness first up followed by a really fruity, hoppy bitterness which totally balances out this beer in sweet and bitter, overall this is a standout brew that i could drink all night and will be buying more of and would advise if you see buy cheers.

A nice malty winter brew. Had this in what was I think a 22oz bottle. Poured out a dark amber color, Nothing extremely overpowering in taste or aroma, but a nice smooth mouthfeel. Individual malts come out more as the beer warmed-up, a little of a roasted taste. The bartender said he could taste a hint of chocolate malts. Overall, a great take on the winter style of beer.

Pours a clear ruby hued brown that has no head to it after poured into a pint. Nice woody and sweet nose. No mass of complexity, but it is still there for you to enjoy. Flavor is nice and rounded. Very smooth wood tones. Leaves. Nuts. Nice and long flavor profile. Consistent and it never drops. Just slowly fades away. Higher carbonation hitting the tongue. Smooth liquid feel. Extremely drinkable. An American style done very well by a Scandinavian brewer. Nice indeed.

(500 ml bottle). The Nøgne Ø micro brewery is in a class of its own (at least by Norwegian standards), so this beer is by far the best Norwegian "klasse D" (= grocery store market) Christmas/Yule beer you can get (all others are Vienna lagers). Deep copper colour, moderate head. Malty, oaky and toffee aroma with hints of spices. Malty flavour balanced by a decent bitterness.
