(review from August 2021) Bottle says best by 10-12-20. Is it worth $13 for an 11.2oz bottle? I'll never know because I'm not paying that price for 10 month old beer. Returned for a refund.

Shared 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 13.2%, IBU 50. Black colour, small brown head. Lovely aroma, roast malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee and liquorice. Medium sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, salty finish.

Completely dark black with the thinnest of tan ring around the edge. The nose was dark roasted grain, a big blast of wet wood, molasses, fudge brownies, and a background of spicy rye. The taste had unsweetened cocoa, brown sugar, Luxardo cherries, sherry, raisins, and a very dry lingering finish. It was a bit more effervescent than anticipated which slightly mellowed out the dark character of this one. It is nonetheless, brooding. I enjoyed the beer because of its uniqueness.

defiintely some nice dark chocolate. got the vanilla. and the licorice and the prunes... perfect description from the brewer below! and so easy to drink at 13.5% !!!
Nøgne Ø A Billowing Surge is a blend of carefully selected barrels of imperial stouts. This full-bodied and harmonious stout has further matured on various spices and cocoa beans. Taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice and prunes in addition to a hint of armagnac from the barrels.
