Shrieking Sixties is a Belgian quadrupel matured in American and French red wine barrels for two years. The barrels adds spice and notes of cranberries, blackberries and licorice. The leftover tannins from the wine adds mouthfeel to this robust beer.

Colour almost black with no translucence. Brown foam, made up of medium-sized bubbles, low and not persistent. Melts to a very thin ring.
The aroma is very sweet, malty, which only mellows with time, next to which a slight vinous acidity slowly appears. Further on we have 'heavy' bread notes, a bit of nutty notes, there is some coffee roastiness, chocolate bitterness and finally a wine whose carrier is the barrel. The whole is very complex and, most importantly, it is coherent. Ultimately, 'wine' and chocolate rule in the aroma.
The taste is minimally acidic, slightly malty sweet but generally dry. The bitterness has the character of dark chocolate and ... wine notes.
The alcohol warms the oesophagus, which generally should not be surprising. Low saturation. Body full, thick but not "fat". Texture soft, smooth. Aftertaste long, dry, chocolatey, vinous.

Rich and winey. Poured from the bottle, avoiding the yeast, it's still a little turbid. Heady smell of oak, wine, and fruit. Quite oaky and strong in the mouth and vinous. Thick and strong and fairly carbonated. This is a sipper for sure. It's a little muddled so doesn't transcend.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Sandnes Kvadrat. ABV is 16.5%, IBU 30. Black colour, minimal and shortlived brown head. Aroma of oak, molasses, fusel, roast malts and red wine. Sweet flavour, distinct notes of roast malts, oak and red wine. Warming mouthfeel.
