A 500ml bottle with a BB of April 2018. Purchased recently from Trembling Madness in York. A collaborative brew between York brewery and the Spanish brewery Cerveza Bizarra; the label describes it as an American pale ale brewed with Munich malt and hopped with Cascade and Simcoe.
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A deep, clear amber colour with plentiful carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a persistent surface layer.
S: Aroma of caramel malt with hints of grain, faint husks, ale yeast, mild leafiness and a touch of damp hay. Little hop character to speak of. Lacklustre.
T: Tastes of caramel malt with notes of barley sugar, light grain, ale yeast, leafiness, subtle hay and a twinge of onion in the background. Subdued hop aroma. Slightly sweet, with a decent bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and good body. Aftertaste of caramel malt, bitter stewed hops and ale yeast.
O: A decent enough ale but doesn't live up to expectations. Good looking, but the aroma and flavour are bland and lacking in depth (not to mention hops). Body is alright. Drinkable but forgettable. No need to hunt it down.
