(Notes of 20/08/2007) Tasted by a half pint at the Capitol, a JDW pub at Forest Hill, SE London.
A: dark straw in colour, light haze, low carbonation, coming with but a ring foam on the top.
S: quite sharp sour lemony fruits and sweet floral scent abound, while a another type of sourness as of oxidised honey stays in the background as well. Lacking a theme and apparently not terribly fresh, this cask is, hence the dominating sour fruits albeit not to the point of displeasure.
T: the foretaste of lemons, tonic bitterness, woody and slightly piney hops fast precedes towards an utterly dry aftertaste, which is at the same time full of ginger skins, a kind of Chinese medicinal herb, dried orange zests, and grapefruit peels, while the pale malts' raw-ish nutty aroma keeps closely aside to balance off the dry-ish palate. In the very end of tasting, the bitter mouthfeel is lengthy and going deep down the tongue.
M&D: quite hoppy in taste and refreshing on the palate, whereas the tinge of sourness comes slightly too much for any balance to be reached. Overall, a quaffable light-bodied Blond Bitter this is, and, if on form, I suspect it'd taste heavenly.
