12oz bottle poured into a tulip
A- pours black in color with a one-finger creamy khaki head that has good retention
S- plenty of port on the nose with aromas of raisin, fig, prune & black cherry. Peppery oak, chocolate and a hint of caramel close it out
T- as with aroma, strong port barrel coming through on taste; vinous red wine notes of raisins, prunes, black cherries & a dominant note of fig. Mid-palate brings out a sharp old oak note, followed by chocolate, vanilla and a hint of caramel. The finish is vinous and tannic, with port barrel dominating to the linger
M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns creamy into a slightly warming finish

Picked up a 12 oz bottle from the Appalachian Vintner 10-28-22 for $7.99. Bottled 5-19-21; consumed 3-30-23. Cold stored since purchase.
Beer poured black with an okay tan head that dissipated quickly.
Nose is very nice, full of dark fruits and some roasted malts.
Taste is a large malt base that takes on the port barrel which imparts dark fruit and dark chocolate. Finishes balanced and not overly sweet.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and pretty smooth.
Overall a nice sipping beer that is not overly complex.

Appearance: Arrives espresso colored with a two finger head; decent retention and lacing action
Smell: The vinous fortified wine barrel treatment is prominent in the aroma though there is some chocolate and a slight tilt to a sweeter impression
Taste: As in the aroma, the fortified wine barrel is more pronounced that the chocolate malt; hints of tobacco and raisin join with the oak to drive home the finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied (but not thick) with moderate carbonation
Overall: I don't love the port wine treatment here; it is an interesting twist and well-constructed but I would rather taste more of the stout elements than I do
