Picked up a 12 oz bottle from the Appalachian Vintner 9-17-25 for $5.99. Bottled 4-27-22; consumed 2-24-26. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured brown with a small tan head that dissipated quickly.

Nose has strong notes of dark fruits and white grapes, very nice.

Taste is well, kind of all over the place and all very strong. The large malt base absorbs a lot of the wood and the Armagnac housed in the barrels resulting in a strong woody overtone. The brandy imparts strong notes of prunes, figs, and caramel. The brandy booze balances this but leaves a burny boozy finish.

Mouthfeel is very thin for the gravity of this beer, not an overly satisfying sip.

Overall, it seems Olde Hickory would have been better served resting the base beer for maybe 2 years instead of six. I am not sure if aging this 5 years would help.
