Had on tap. Happy to once again support the brew program at App St. Murky amber brown body, white cap and lacing. Smell is laced with sickly sweet honey, big hops too, rye is lingering in the background with the sweet malt. Taste has a touch more rye but still way too sweet, malt, honey and resinous hops all overpower the palate. Body is fun though, creamy and lush with rye and some botanical textures. Needs some works on the balance

22 ounce bottle -> New Belgium globe glass

A - pours up cloudy about the color of apricots with a big three to four Inch off white head, great retention and great lacing.

S - grassy, bready, earthy

T - Rye dominates the taste profile with the honey very subdued. Overall crisp flavor with a clean finish.

M - extremely carbonated with a slight rye aftertaste

O - not that well balanced, but very enjoyable.

Thanks to Jlang2012 for sending this one as an extra for our trade! Reviewed from notes. Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a Russian River pint glass.

A: Pours a bright copper, nearly completely clear, with one and a half fingers of white head that fades fairly quickly, and moderate visible carbonation.

S: A sweet smell, with biscuity malts. And not much else.

T: Follows the nose - a pretty simple beer. Malt forward, biscuity and a bit of wild grain flavor with a flowery honey sweetness and a touch of grassy bitterness from a restrained hop presence.

M: Medium body, alcohol very well-hidden given the ABV and the style, and good carbonation sensation.

O: Nothing objectionable here, but very much nothing exciting. I don't get any particular rye flavor from the malt profile. But it's an easy beer to drink, malt-forward and sweet without being cloying.

A: Pours a clear golden amber in color with moderate to significant amounts of visible carbonation and orange + golden yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy light beige head that quickly reduces to a large mottled patch of thin film and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of bready malts with caramel and honey sweetness along with some floral hops and just a touch of rye spiciness.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of bready and caramel malts with a light amount of honey sweetness. That is followed by moderate amounts of rye spiciness and hints of floral and spicy hops. Light amounts of bitterness in the finish which fades pretty quickly.

M: Medium bodied with slightly more than moderate amounts of carbonation. Creamy.

O: A pretty nice offering from the students at App State and Olde Hickory - I wish there was a little more of the rye spiciness to the smell of the beer but the alcohol is well hidden, it is easy to drink, and I enjoyed it.
