The seventh beer tasted by half-pint at the Catford Beerfest., 08/06/06. Gravity-dispensed.
A: very very dark brown colour, very clear; a fluffy off-white beer head sustains alright, very low carbonated.
S: roasty dark malts abound, deeply nutty, and decorated by a touch of black-sugar syrup and an earthy/muddy hint of hops. Pretty nice, but perhaps it needs more dryish edges to it to strike a balance.
T: very mild, light-bodied dark maltiness followed by a licorice+walnutty aromatic bitter-sweetness; lovely, chewy nutty roastiness lingers beautifully in the end...
M&D: slightly off-focus, thin-bodied overall and not as robust as the beer tasted right before this one (Wolf Woild Moild, a 4.8%abv. dark mild), but an assertive roasty edge in the end does help keep a healthy balance. All in all, a nice malty mild.
