On cask at latest 'spoonsfest. Mahogany colour and smoky aroma, perhaps with a hint of liquorice. Sweet treacle flavour becoming tobaccoish with some bitterness to finish. I'm very fond of this.

Being the dork I am I wrote notes down I was sampling at the Singapore Beer Fest. I got some strange looks. Anyway...
A semi dark pour, not black, not brown. A bit odd color, perhaps it was the fantastic plastic mug we were given. Little head, though. Not sure I like that.
Chocolate, figs and some bits of citrus come through in the nose. Some stale coffee as well.
Taste is mostly a bitter with some chocolate added. Seemed thin, but tasted thick. Figs and sweet cocoa try to come through, but the bitters shut it down. A slight citrus tinge in the back. Aftertaste is lean and dry.
Perhaps would have liked another if it weren't, like, 102 degrees outside and humid.

Appearance: dark brown, no head, good clarity
Aroma: nutty, chocolatey, leafy, malty
Flavor: a malty fullness up front with a slight tartness followed by a bloom of caramel and dark chocolate; toasted hazelnuts; mild bitterness; finishes semisweet with a lingering rooty aftertaste
Mouthfeel: medium-full body, very light carbonation, soft texture
Other comments: Not sure if this is a "dud" or if it's supposed to be nearly flat. Either way, it is still quite good, carbonation or not. Will definitely try it again.
