Gravity halfpint at the London Drinker festival.
A: Deep, clear copper body with a thin but sticky off-white head. Pretty nice.
S: Quite assertive, with lots of nuttiness, some sweet salted caramel, and a distant dark fruit note. I can't tell if I like it or not, but it's powerful in any case.
T: I'm still on the fence. More purely malty here, with candied walnuts and straight caramel. The fruitiness holds off until the tail end, where it joins strangely with a chalky dryness. Odd but interesting.
M: Medium body, supple carbonation. Very nice.
O: This was an interesting one, with lots of flavors bouncing around inside a sessionable package. I've deducted a quarter point, though, for the brewery's lazy "Google Translate" translation of their name into Latin. "Quercus Folium" means "an oak a leaf," and therefore makes no sense. It should be "Folium Querci." Brewers: BM me for information on where to direct my consultancy check.
Cheers!
