Slightly darker gold color, only a small head that fades into nothingness. Smell is fruity and lightly malty, not bad, for the style. Taste is much deeper and more well hopped than many in the style. Smooth and malty, this is actually a very good brew. I could easily sessoin this one.

Slightly more golden than amber with a thin collar of bone.
Nose is baked bread cut with metallic, floral bitterness.
Begins with a floured, white-bread, dinner roll suggestion and doesn't progress much from there. Bitters enter with tin and dried herbs, and maybe a minor nod towards citrus. It seems to turn additionally toasty as it warms. No discernable adjuncting. Roughly akin to a 70% American Lager, 30% Vienna cross.
Medium bodied and a bit loose and yeasty; it is, however, as dry as it need to be to suffice as a quencher. Unremarkable, bu do-able.

It's certainly okay, just nothing great. There's a lot in its favor: a sudsy head over an amber body and a malty nose, a little like a Vienna. And yes, a malty, slightly sticky taste, but very little hop flavor. After being well pleased with this brewery's Oscar's Chocolate Oatmeal Stout, this is kind of a letdown. But if this is their "flagship" brand, it's a little better example to have on the shelves than any mega-lager.

Pioneer Lager: on tap, deep amber/copper color. Very malty, with just a hint of soapy-ness that spoiled the taste. Not much balance as what hops there were simply served to clean up the finish rather than to add any substantive flavors.

Pours a hazy amber. Clarity is horrible for a lager. (Looks like an amber ale.) A bad musty smell. Taste is more of the same. Musty and soapy. I do get a little bit of roastiness and a toasty taste also (perfect for a lager). I really can't believe this is a straight lager. It says nothing about being a dark lager, amber lager or anything of the sort. Hmmmm. Not what I'd call a lager......or a good beer.
