Pours a dark chestnut brown with a light creamy tan head. Nice aroma of chocolate roasted malt, caramel, and a little vinous. Medium-bodied and airy mouthfeel. Initial flavors of roasted malt and toffee. There seems to be just the right amount of bitterness to cut the sweetness. The smoothness is lost a little in the seltzer-like texture, which was in-line with the awkward carbonation. Long-lasting finish, reaffirms the aforementioned flavors and really excentuates the roasted quality of the grain. Slight nuttiness is introduced at the back also. I think the finish is my favorite part of this porter. Badger Porter is a little above average. Overall, not bad in a pinch.

Pours a tawny brown to settle a clear deep ruby mahagony color with caramel highlights. A finger high head of light tan caps the top quickly only to fade just as fast, a partial skim and thinnly frothed collar remains. Spotty big globs of lace stick. Aroma is a bit empty with slight roastiness, nuts, and vanilla. Taste is plain and simple with just a nudge of roastiness, very skimmed chocolate notes and old coffee with a drying finish which lingers some. Feel has a thin start but a gradual growing roasted feel that nears a medium body and it finishes it off with a slight chocolatey/cocoa powder dryness.
Slightly better then average here and not by much I'm afraid. Will make for a good cooking porter though. Pork chops anybody?

Pours a nice, thick tan head that dwindles to a thin layer with a bit of lace. Ruby red highlights in a brown body. Good malty and roast aroma. Slight chocolate and burnt coffee taste, but not too much. Comes across a little dry with some nuttiness. Won't call it world class, but it's nice and drinkable, an example of a Wisconsin brewer trying to provide a Wisconsin-cheap beer ($6.25 a sixpack at the Black River Falls IGA) while nodding to the beer geeks.

Big ol frothy tan head atop this brownish/black porter....aroma throws hints of Java and cola my way...Very thin and relatively tasteless...Not getting much burnt malt or java tones....a pretty nice little unobtrusive dark beer to break someone in with....easy drinking...more of a "dark" beer than a heavy duty porter....reminds me some of Leinie's Creamy Dark....although this is an ale...maybe more of a brown ale...It's not bad, and definitely drinkable but lacks the character of the top notch Porters....I am rating it as a Porter against the best in the world...let me say again, there is nothing wrong with this as a beer, but matched against great Porter's it comes up short..

This beer is a dark ruby color. A hefty and rocky light brown head tops this brew. Very nice retention is noted also. Some decent chocolate malt and roasted tones on the nose. They don't come through quite so nicely on the palate however. I get a slight soapiness that I've noticed in other offerings from Pioneer. The beer is still enjoyable, but it won't be confused with Summit's Great Northern Porter or Deschutes Black Butte. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy and I do pick up some decent java notes as well. Not too bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
