L- Very deep ruby-red, pours clear with a 5mm pale tan fine-bubble cap. ps. forms lacing all the way down.
S- Light citrus on the front, repeated sniffs ID a very light toasty note behind it.
T- Quite clear citrus on the front... grapefruit I think. It builds, pungent enough to make me reflexively sneeze. Lol, this can happen to me on notably dry/hoppy beers esp. 'hipster beers'. I do get some light toasty aspect in the background too. 1/3rd down and the specific grapefruit is waning, it's now more just an acidic taste with an occasional waft of perfumed citrus.
F- On balance somewhat refreshing I suppose; tho 'black beer' seems the opposite of that characteristic. It conveys as 'non-standard' to me. The acidic aspect dominates leading to it feeling 'thin'; it's 5% but I get so sense of that at all.
O- The can and input from Thornbridge pre-signal that this is not going to be a straight-forward brew. It is contemporary, it's major aspect is a grapefuit edge. Interesting to try but a bit too novel for me to buy again.
330ml crafty-can. BBE: 05/2022. £1.99, bought from the spiffy Adnams shop in right bang in the middle of Norwich city centre.
