'Take the plunge and explore the unfathomable depths of Deep Seas, our Belgian-Style Blonde. Immerse yourself in the big waves of flavour, that come rolling in during fermentation.
The rich Belgian fruitiness and mild floral spiciness of Adnams house yeast really comes to the fore in Deep Seas. This merges with the tangerine notes of Mandarina Bavaria hops, while the addition of wheat stirs up lavish depth and foam.'

I don't recall the Adnams tasting note in the description beyond it suggesting this is a Belgian Blonde style. Now that would be a fine thing indeed but I have my suspections. Firstly breweries seem to pitch to the youth market vs trad styles. Secondly this is in a 440ml 'crafty can', matt plastic foil wrapped, colours of which are mostly azure blue and yellow/orange. When those colours are used in labels, the beers tend to be 'hipster', ie (just in my own view) over-hopped to being being out of balance. Hmmm, let's see.
L- It pours very pale orange, clear with a 2mm fine-bubble white bubble cap.
S- It seems mild, possibly what I do sense is the Belgian ester note.
T- It appears to have 'that'^ note but it is also quite brightly hopped. To the extent that on swallowing a sense of dryness remains on my palate for a moment. As I sip on, the hops remain prominent and malts go some way to balancing them.
M- I can tell it has some body, but there is little to suggest it's ABV%. That said bright hops can mask an alcohol note. It comes over as quite bold so for most people is unlikely to one to rush.
O- To me it seems like a Belgian Blonde with somewhat more contemporary (loud/dry) hops than is typical in a Belgian brew. Perhaps it is a clever re-interpretation pitching to a younger market who even with a trad style have an expectation of bold hopping?
I expect this beer might be a divider of generations. It's drinkable, just not one for me in future.
440ml can. Reviewed now in draft I'll read the can. Right, they have used 'Mandarina Bavaria' [!?] hops as in Mandarin Orange, GM hops. They say these hops add 'tangerine notes'. Bah humbug - if I want such I'll buy a can of Lilt instead.
Bought from the Adnams shop in Bury St Edmunds.
