Much credit to Tyranena for having the balls to brew a schwartzbier. Not a style you see very often.
Pours black with just the slightest rusty-brown shades around the edge. Nice fluffy pale tan head. Fades to a wisp, but never leaves entirely. A little sweet malt (caramel) on the nose, along with a little hard-water smell (one of the few negatives about this beer).
The taste is lovely. Good deal of sweetness, (with caramel, and some chocolate) balances the roasted malt flavors. More roastedness and slight bitterness materialize as the beer warms. The aftertaste is roasted vanilla bean, it begs you to take another sip. It leaves the mouth basking in the afterglow for a considerable amount of time.
With a little more body(since it's a winter brew) an less carbonation, this beer would be just about perfect...but that is nit-picking, exceptionally drinkable as it is.
One of my personal favorite lagers.
Too bad it is only a late-winter seasonal.
As a note: get this fresh (late Jan or Feb)....it tends to sit on the shelf for a while and does not hold up for very long.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
