Bottle. Khaki tan head. Black color. Lace.
Chocolate and Guiness like vibes. Roasted malts. Cocoa. Caramel. Smooth texture. Some bitter coffee notes. Medium to full bodied. Simple, but solid.

Black pour under a creamy tan head, the nose is rich toffee and milk chocolate. Magnificent.
The milk chocolate is prominent on the taste, and there’s also rich toffee notes, which combine together in a big, creamy double oatmeal stout bomb. Just a pleasure to drink.

An aggressive pour yields about a finger of deep brown foam, disappears at a breakneck pace, you can see it evaporate, lacing close to nonexistent. Unblemished black liquid, you can see a few bubbles break the surface otherwise it’s an onyx block. There’s an odd evasiveness to the nose, reluctant to fully share the licorice, oatmeal, milk chocolate with plum/prune and black cherry fruit scents, while you sense there’s something lurking in the shadows, there it all remains. Medium-bodied, sugary sweet as if chaptalized wine, heavy cream, milk chocolate, licorice, caramel, the oatmeal more subtle and most likely adds smoothness and volume to the mouth feel. Red berry, cherry fruit and a touch of grape add some dimension. The carbonation does very little to add pep so the flavors don’t dance together. No alcoholic burn. On the whole the array of flavors is pleasing but it all needs a conductor to breathe life into it. Otherwise it tends to remain flat footed.

$ 2.24 (Including tax)/12 oz bottle ($ 0.118/oz) at Chalet Party Shoppe, Middlebury, IN.
Bottle stored at 42 degrees. Served at 45 degrees in a hand washed and dried Brewery Vivant snifter.
Aroma – chocolate and some coffee.
Head – Large (Maximum 5.4 cm, aggressive pour), khaki, high density, slightly longer than average retention time, diminishing to a three mm ring and complete layer with some rocks.
Lacing – poor. Some islands left behind as I drink but no organized curtains.
Body – dark brown/black, opaque.
Flavor – begins with dark chocolate and a slight hint of caramel, a little weak coffee. Very slightly bitter. No hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl. Allowing it to warm in my mouth brings up the alcohol a notch but doesn’t really effect the other flavors.
Palate – full, creamy, soft carbonation.
Overall, a very pleasing brew for those of us who enjoy oatmeal stouts.
Appearance 3.5, Aroma 4.25, Flavor 4.25, Palate 4.25, Overall 4.25.
