looks the part....pitch black...no light shines through...very slight tan head...sweet chocolate for an instance then a soft whiskey aroma emerges and mixes in....Good not great flavor...some nice burnt malts...also a hint of sweet chocolate...the bourban aging adds a nice bite on the finish...I wish the flavors were more intense....this is a subtle beer...Mouthfeel is creamy, easy drinking and smooth...a bit too think for my liking...needs a bit more body...Creamy+ velvety+ thinnish= a stout that slides down easy..Problem is that is not exactly what I'm looking for in this beer.
Not a beer i would be kocking down doors for...I like the fact this brewery is continuing to explore new frontiers and this is a nice stab at a whiskey barrel stout...it really looks the part and has some other nice characteristics to go along with it, but this is not an elite beer like their IPA..

This beer is black. A thin brown head forms on the pour. Retention is adequate. Lacing is absent. Aroma of burnt malts, bittersweet chocolate and coffee grace my nose. This beer has a nice subtle whisky flavor to it. Great char on the buds as well. A little tobacco. Some chocolate. Pretty nice flavor. The body seems a little thin in my opinion, but otherwise, this is a substantial beverage all around.

On tap at Tyranena's Brewpub. This is the Pretty Damn Black Stout aged for 4 months in boubon barrels.
Deep, deep black with a wisp of a brown head.
Nose of chewing tobacco, mocha, earth and obviously bourbon. Quite inviting aromatics.
Tastewise, the bourbon aspects are not quite as pronounced, yet intermingled well. An immediate roastedness invites coffee comparisons initally. This fades as a milk chocolate sensation enters. Towards the middle, the bourbon enters, bringing with it a tangy liquor sweetness with some molasses tagging along. Finishes fairly dry and continuously roasty. Hopping is not much of a factor, but balances things well.
Medium bodied, nicely creamed and delightful in the mouth.
Great stuff.
