Mahogany-reddish brown in colour and almost glossy (centrifuged). Full, sweet and creamy body, soft mouthfeel, slightly acidic 'tingle' and medium carbonation. Prominent body, slightly sweet with a balanced, medium to low soft bitterness and a balancing touch of fruity acidity. Inspired by classic Belgian dubbels (the light end of the dubbel scale), this beer has been given a classic, Nordic Schiøtz touch through a distinct flavour profile with elderberry and cherry, and is 'lightened' with 10% sugar from the extract.

Copenhagen 25/5 2019. 75 cl bottle from Fakta, Frederiksborgvej, Kbh NV. Dark red label with Theodor Schiøtz' grumpy visage in gold.
Pours clear mahogany with a medium-sized off-white head. Settles as thin, patchy layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. Clinging to the sides of the glass. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is malty, with sweet berries and yeast. Sweet berries with a light tart edge. Sugar. Humid basement. Light buttery notes.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily texture.
Flavor is notable sweet - but not overly so. Lighter spicy bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a lighter bitter undercurrent. Lightly burnt. lingers for a while.
Manages to find a balance between being sweet berry beer and having a solid malty backbone. Not as sweet as I feared. Quite solid.
