On tap at the Deepwater
Very dark reddish brown with a head that quickly dissipates, and leaves lace down the sides of the glass.
Smell is predominately malty, with a hint of chocolate
Taste is dark malt, maybe a bit of chocolate, a vague roasted quality in the background and then a nice slightly bitter hop? presence at the end. Could use some additional complexity though, a pleasant taste, but somewhat one-dimensional.
Mouthfeel is somewhat weaker than I'd like for a porter, but clean.
Overall, pretty drinkable, but I'd like to see a bit more complexity in this. If this had a more substantial mouthfeel, I think it would improve my impression of it, as the taste wasn't bad.

This brew was called the Muskie Capital Porter when I was at the South Shore last. Don't know if this differs from their other porter offerings -- it was the only porter on the menu and I had the last 1/3 pint, as the line went dry in mid-pour.
The brew was dark with a thick creamy head. The texture was milk-shake like. The smell was subtle roast. The taste was lightly sweet up front with a crisp, lightly bitter finish. Roastyness was apparent but not in your face. Finish was bitter, but only just. It was a pretty soft taste. Nice, but not awesome.

Originally reviewed on March 20, 2006. Growler. Pour of amber fringed deep brown, with a ruddy glint. No head. Light salty aroma of oats with some roasted salted peanuts and a woody toast. Flavor adds some light shavings of dark Belgian Chocolate. Light rootbeers tocuhes. A hint of mellow cherries. Palate is a hint of oaky dryness and some silky sweetness. Standard porter, with a little less smoothness and depth than I would prefer. Drinkable, but with weak salty quality. Finishes with a bit of a harsh bitter bite.

Thick dark brown getting more amber as it reaches the bottom and edges. Dark ivory frothy 1/4 inch head, lace sticks well in coated sheets and bigger ink blots. Smell is a bit light but nice with a mild, dark nutty roast tone with underlying chocolate frosting notes. Taste is a bit thin but renders a super clean silky smooth feel and kinder, gentle flavoring of milk chocolate. Thats about it really; barely noticeable roast and bitterness comes through and has a clean, very light dryness off the finish. Liked the feel, quite clean and silky smooth, albiet thin overall in body, yet with a gentle dry finish. Even though this didn't blow my buds or really interest me, it was quite drinkable and would make for a nice seesion porter. Went absolutely great with my chocolate cake for dessert.
