I shared this growler with BigHugey...and didn't think as highly of it...It has a nice nose...sweet dark fruits, alcohol, some soft caramel and vanilla...very interesting and inviting nose...brownish black in color...little head...very think mouthfeel..slight dry finish...taste is really lacking...dark bitter cocoa is nice but not a lot of complexity..I guarantee BigHugeys Imperial stout will turn out 5 times better....nose was inviting..looked decent..everything else was pour to average..particularly the mouthfeel...not worth the time..

This beer is approximately 10 months old.
It is not black. I like Imperials to be black. So be it. It's a dark ruby with crimson highlights. A thin creamy brown head recedes to a thin coating after a minute or two. Bitter hops, chocolate, roasted coffee and a little vanilla bean are on the nose. Unfortunately, the nose turns out to be only a tease. The first thing I noticed upon drinking is that the body is lacking. Right around medium. (Instead of the thick, full body I was looking for.) Very weak for an Imperial. Otherwise, the mouthfeel is silky smooth and low on carb.
Flavor profile is nice, but not obtrusive or jagged as an Imperial should be. There's a nice roasted coffee flavor. Bittersweet chocolate. A little vanilla. Nice tasting brew, but it didn't kick my ass the way an Imperial should.
This would be an very good Dry Stout, but it falls short of the Big Characteristics that an Imperial Stout should exhibit.
