Comes in a brown 33cl bottle with a tapered neck and a white and yellow label featuring an guy in admiral garb and a corncob pipe peering through a porthole flanked by two anchors. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and bottle-conditioned, this beer includes sugar as an ingredient. The label calls this a "bitter," while the name "Yantarnoye" means amber. Looks and taste more like an amber ale. Best before 1/2004, I opened it on 11/18/03.
Pours a lovely cloudy reddish amber hue under a short-lived off white head that dissipated quickly to just a whisp of film and a trace of collar. No lace. The nose is fruity more than anything else. The mouth is light and a bit more than medium-carbonated. The flavor is very good - malts and a bit of grape juice to start, followed by a nice hoppy bite. The aftertaste is more bitter than sweet, but both elements linger for quite a while. I could happily drink a few of these.
