A 330ml bottle with a BB of June 2014, so it's a little out of date. Hopefully still good. Acquired a while back from Trembling Madness in York. Described on the label as a tribute to the Chouffe brewery in Belgium.
Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned (I think). A rich orange-amber hue with fine sediment and good carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a moment or two before reducing to a surface layer. Some lacing. Aroma of fruity hops and yeast with hints of white grape, melon, mild citrus, grass/hay, subtle banana, spice, mild caramel malt, a touch of earthiness and a hint of warming booze in the background. Pretty good.
Tastes of fruity, spicy hops and yeast esters, with a bitter finish. Notes of white grape, mild melon, grapefruit, peel, citrus, grass/hay, subtle banana, dry spices, yeast esters, faint earthiness and stewed hops. A touch of alcohol in the background. Well-attenuated, followed by a spicy hop-driven bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and lightly spicy, with pleasant carbonation and good body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of fruity hops, yeast esters, mild spice and bitterness.
Rather nice - a satisfying pairing of aromatic hops and Belgian yeast. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour are fruity and yeasty. White fruits and citrus dominate, along with hints of spice. Decent body. In my opinion Belgian IPAs don't always work well, so this is a success. I think the use of hop varieties with light, fruity notes is the key for a pleasant blend of flavours. Worth a punt if you come across it.
