Finally made the trek to Brighton and the Evening Star pub. Well worth the visit, even for just this beer, which I hadn't heard if till now. A collaboration between dark star and thornbridge breweries.
Lovely semi opaque dark body with orange highlights. Good finger of head that leaves a lather of oily lace down my pint.
Big beer, subtle nose. Smoky porter-esque dark malt, some cola and a bhutt load of fresh aromatic hops (Kiwi varieties apparently).
The flavour is dominated by hops up front. One of the hoppiest English beers I've ever had. Definitley the freshest hops I've had in ANY beer. Loads of grass, good citrusy grapefruit and some pineapple. Dark malt more than holds it's own, slightly sweet, slightly smoky. Balanced to perfection. Bitter roasted malts and big bitter hops are eternally long in the finish. This is a real class act from a brewery I've never tried (dark star) and one who brews my one of my fave yank inspired English IPAs (jaipur by thornbridge).
Mouthfeel is cask medium-light thickened a touch by the oily hops but minimal carb.
If I didn't have to get back to London tonight I would sit here and do pint after pint of this sub 5% ale. I think this will be the highest scoring review on BA I've done, and rightly so.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
