A Best Bitter brewed in a traditional Sussex style using extra pale Concerto, Crystal and Chocolate malts with East Kent Goldings hops. Typical of Dark Star ales, the Best Bitter relies on the heavy-handed addition of aromatic hops late in the boil.

Cask at The Harp, London, as Dark Star Partridge Best Bitter. Amber to copper colour, low white head. Minimal aroma, some malts and nuts. The flavour is malty but not very sweet, with a fruity and slightly acidic finish, some bitterness.

Served on handpump into an English pint glass, golden/amber in colour with a small 'off' white head

Hop, fruit and a touch of sulphur on the nose, not unpleasent, but not alluring!

Slightly sweet in taste for a bitter, with a small amount of hop biterness in the aftertaste. A hint of caramel and fruit in the background

Fairly thin in body and leading to a dry-ish finish

Not a bad beer, but the most disappointing I've sampled to date from the Dark Star range, they set high standards!

Simply 'whelming' !
