Pudgy Possum pours a black color, with no head. Smokey aroma, hints of peat. Smokey flavors, peated malty notes as well. Body is a little light and watery. Overall, a smokier porter, with a light body.

This is an exceptional porter. The sight of this beer is like a brown porter from Europe. Deep dark color, nearly black. Hold it up to the light and you see some hints of amber near the bottom. The aroma is laden with dark malts and hints of roast coffee. The taste follows the aroma (dark malts, roast coffee) but with a wonderful balance of hop bitterness and slight hint of alcohol (6.4%, not too shabby). No idea what kind of yeast they could be using, but my guess is something European. Like S04 or WLP002. I do get some esters in there, but it's balanced nicely in the flavor. The mouth feel is a touch thin, but nothing bad. I'd still buy a growler of this in a heart beat. Unfortunately, they're short on stock and not filling growlers this week. They said they got a shipment of the wrong malt and it set them back a week in the pipeline. Bummer.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this beer. And I'm impressed with Minocqua Brewing Company overall. I drank a flight. ALL the beers were enjoyable, but Pudgy Possum Porter was my favorite. And the food here is great too. Definitely stop in when you're in Minocqua.

Thanks to James and Aimee for bringing this back from the brewery!

A: poured with a nice dark tan head that dissipated, deep copper color, clear
S: mild nose, deep roasted malt with some light burnt qualities
T: roasted malt with some burnt finish, hops are not OTT and malt shines through
M: medium bodied
O: decent brew, jut nothing special
