A - Plain brown with a tight white head. Minimal lacing. A fairly dark beer but thats to be expected with the darker rye malt. Somewhat hazy body.
S - Minimal nutty spice and herbal hops in the aroma. The rye doesn't really come out in the aroma as much as the sage-like hop aroma with a touch of toasty malt. Nothin' really enticing here.
T - The aforementioned herbal hops hit first followed by a little rye spice. Kind of a dirty flavor to it. Somewhat rough around the edges. Think the smell of old bread, leather, and a touch of pine sap. There is a decent amount of DMS in there which wasn't super pleasing. Overall, not bad flavor. Mild and different. To style for a rye ipa.
M - Medium bodied with little carbonation. The lack of bubbles helped make the mouthfeel a little more oily and bring out the intricate, hidden flavors a bit. I thought it was nice.
D - A pretty standard Rye IPA. The rye was there but somewhat hidden. I'd like to see a touch more of that spicy, leathery rye and maybe some more citrus hops to cut through the rye. Overall, not terrible. Might have again if i'm in town.
