I had a glass of this at Widmer's Gasthaus in Portland, Ore., with my fiancee.

It's a nice copper color without much head, instead it just has a layer of foam.

It has a hoppy, but not really hoppy, smell. I also note some sweet smells from the malt and a bit of alcohol.

Its taste is very nice: bitter and hoppy. The alcohol flavor is apparent but not huge.

The body is substantial, yet smooth and slick.

As for drinkability, one 8-ounce glass is enough, and that's with food! This is one of Widmer's best brews, but I am a hophead.

Another artistic beer from Widmer’s Collaborator series. This one begins with a very cool name followed by a bright citrus aroma that is fresh, immediate, and unrelenting. Hopnosis emphasizes fistfuls of up-front hop flavor with an abundance of grapefruit and grapefruit rind. The flavor is sizzling and delightful at first, but ultimately the bitterness settles in as overblown and scorching. Too much of a good thing I suppose, though the beer goes far on hop flavor and I would like to know what hops took it there. Cascade? Amarillo? Ahtanum?

Hopnosis is clear burnished copper. It’s a fun beer to drink if your plans for the evening don’t include any further use of your tastebuds.
