Draft
Pours almost two fingers of tan head into a tall lager glass. Very pillowy. Body is jet black. Head retention is above average, haven't lost much after a few minutes. Looks very nice so far.
Nose is good, clean, great attenuation, dry. Not quite as roasty as it should be I feel like, but oh well. Bitter cocoa. Faint hops. Attenuation reaches almost a mineral like aroma. Smells good, could use more character.
Flavor hits closer to a dunkel, a little on the sweet side, though certainly not too much to be unenjoyable. Definitely some nice bready notes, finishes a little bitter. Has faint extract like flavors, but doesn't stray too far from home. Overall a very nice flavor, even if it's a little off style.
Mouthfeel is pretty dang spot on, carbonation is medium-low, body is actually a little heftier than a regular black lager, some may be bothered by this, but I don't mind. Mild bitterness, doesn't linger.
The drinkability is outstanding, it's tasty and crushable.
The appearance turned out pretty great, thick lacing all the way down. Head eventually dissipated, but had good retention.
Overall a really solid lager. Should note that the sugars cleaned up as I drank it, got dryer and cleaner.
