16oz draft
Pours one finger of tan head into a british nitro glass. Retention is average. Body is basically black, but there are hues of brown. Initial lacing looks pretty good. Looks decent so far.
At first the nose was very light, dry, mineral, small bitter chocolate notes, faint nuttiness. It almost smelled like a shwarz. I don't think BJCP recognizes "english porter" as a style, rather brown porter is the style, so shwarz isn't that craziest thing to come to mind. As I smelled it a little bit longer the aroma got deeper, a little sweeter too. Overall it smells pretty nice.
Definitely on the drier side for the flavor, mineral. Has a roastyness in the finish that is a little too much and undesired. Not nutty at all, touch of chocolate. As an easy drinking dark beer it works, but I'm not exactly sure what I want out of this, because the nose had a little bit of everything. Even for a light feeling beer, it could use a little deeper flavor. It tastes good though, and stylistically I think it's on point.
Mouthfeel carries a lot of what this beer is doing. Very light, dry, mineral. Kinda the same story though, in that I don't know whether that's good or not for me. I'll give it credit for being a well fermented beer that is very clean, and just leave it at that.
Drinkability is obviously very high.
Appearance turned out meh, ok. Lacing was pretty patchy to say the least, head was average.
Overall a pretty nice beer. A tad roasty for me, and not as full as it could be, but a solid brew.
