Widmer Van Helles - I had a pint at the Gasthaus. Served in an imperial pint, the beer is a hazy amber with a fluffy off-white head.
It has an inviting nose of fresh bread, malts and a bit of toffee.
The beer is slightly sweet with lots of bready malts with caramel notes. Hops add a bit of spice and balance. Beer stays sweet until 3/4s of the glass is gone. More balanced in the finish.
The mouth is silky smooth with pin pricks of carbonation. It was a pretty easy drinker and went well with my pulled pork. I would have it again in a heartbeat. Note the tap handle looks like the symbol of the band Van Halen which I though was kind of cool.
