Half pint at 'spoons Crystal Plaace in Glasgow. Judging by this "amber" (according to the pump), their "IPA" and the other Sttrathaven brews I've sampled, Strathaven's beers have such a strong stock flavour that any style differences are lost in the shuffle. This, then, is the strong one, like the IPA but with more alcohol.

It has an amber colour, a white head, and a peat smoke nose with a hint of sherry. It showcases the stock medicinal, peaty flavour with a rathe rthicker feel than most of their beers. There is some additional sweetness compared to their other beers but this is soon swept away by the peaty nature. However, while the hops at first seem solely spicy, after a while there is some accompanying minty hoppiness. It's pretty good stuff, but steer well clear of it if you don't like peaty scotch.
