The Rev. James Gold was added to the range in 2015 and brewed in the same style as its original counterpart. It is a crisp, sweet golden ale with fresh fruit flavours that are balanced by an intriguing depth and light malty aroma.

Cask at Duke of Wellington, Cardiff, Wales

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high creamy white head that died down and left a layer of bubbles on the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of pale malts and fruity yeast are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of pale malts (with a touch of sweetness) and notes of fruity yeast.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and very smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink. I really enjoyed its smooth mouthfeel.

A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of April 2018. Purchased recently from ALDI as part of their beer festival. The label claims that this ale is inspired by a recipe from 1885.

A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A rich golden colour with good clarity and plentiful carbonation. Forms a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a minute or two before subsiding to a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of ale yeast esters with hints of grainy malt, faint stewed husks, subtle leafy hops and a touch of hay. Pretty average.

T: Tastes of light, grainy malt with notes of ale yeast, mild fruity esters, leafy hops, subtle grass/hay and faint stewed husks. A restrained, almost herbal bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Perhaps a tad thin. Aftertaste of light, grassy bitterness, ale yeast and faint malt.

O: OK; better than expected. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are a reasonable mix of light malt, ale yeast and subtle leafy hops. Average body for the style. There's just enough hop character on offer to keep it from being dull, but that said it's nothing special. No need to hunt it down.

Bottle. Pale golden/straw colour. Thin head.
Aroma of hay, citrus fruit and light malt.
Quite sweet. Some grain and biscuit. A light hop bitterness to finish.
Quite light bodied.
I remember having this on cask and as always it was much better.
