Treacle-coloured with a creamy contrasting head. A velvety smooth pint, Dark has a combination of chocolate, crystal and brown malts providing a clean palate with hints of liquorice and freshly ground coffee.
Once called Red Dragon the famous pint of Dark has always been synonymous with Brains particularly in Cardiff with the dock-workers of old, the male voice choirs and with rugby fans down in the Arms Park. Nowadays its popularity has expanded and is the biggest selling dark mild in Wales, continually winning awards both nationally and internationally.

Pours jet black with fluffy tan head.
Smell is roasted and a bit sweet. Notes of chocolate, coffee, brown bread with hints of nuts and cream.
Taste is rich, roasted and a bit sweet with a moderate bitterness. Notes of chocolate, coffee, nuts, syrup loaf and tobacco. Extremely drinkable.
Mouthfeel is medium, smooth and well carbonated.
Overall, an amazing mild, the best I've had,

This is an example of a beer where the ABV% differs between the draft and bottled versions. That is why I added this beer listed with a specific 'Bottled' in it's name. The beer is 3.5% on draft, and 4.1% bottled, about 20% higher alcohol.
Bought for me in Wally's beer shop in Cardiff. 500ml £2.10 BB: 15/11/20
L- Very dark indeed. Even through the bottom corner of a pint glass held up in front of a halogen bulb I only get a flicker of very dark ruby-chestnut. otherwise it appear black. Pours with 1CM pale tan head that is very slowly receding leaving lacing.
S- Deeply toasted grains. I'm a bit surprised not to get anything more.
T- Follows the Smell^ distinctly toasted, hints of smoke, has the taste you imagine chewing on the cold remnant lump of half-burnt wooden log in a fireplace might have. It packs a lot of flavour for a 4.1%ABV beer.
F- The flavour is pretty pungent and dominates. There is good carbonation in the head of fine foam that holds well, + forms lacing, + in the mouth
O- 4.1% is at the lower end of the scale of ABVs I seek out, this one packs quite a punch of flavour considering, and somehow balances it into a cogent, cohesive whole. I like this... and I'm not hugely into black beers either. I don't notice anything notable wrong here, at all. Nice beer, would happily enjoy again.
