Got this one from mikesgroove. Thanks!
Crystal clear medium to dark amber with a solid cap of beige foam. Good retention, sticky and streaky lacing. All malt and grain in the aroma, with just a hint of floral hop notes. White bread crust, light toffee and roast, crackers. Light bitterness, malty caramel flavour, earthy and sweet around the edges with a bit of dark grain character (very light and fleeting roast and chocolate). Light fruitiness appears as it warms. Just over light bodied, creamy carbonation that was nicely integrated into the texture. Seems a little overattenuated and certainly on the dry side, something I don't expect in a Scottish ale. Even so, it's a decent beer and one worth having a pint of if you see it.

On tap at the Blue Ridge Brewing Company, Greenville, SC, 12/26/2008.

Appearance: A dark, clear amber bodied beer, with a tan half-finger head of average retention that leaves little sheen. Carbonation is infrequent and slow. An average start.

Aroma: Surprisingly light and floral up front, followed by a handful of buttery, relatively crisp and clean malt notes. Special shout out to chocolate and toffee, which are particularly prominent here.

Taste: Plenty of malt notes here, obviously - medium roast coffee, well-toasted bread, plenty of "malty" malt notes with a definite crystalline, crisp edge, butterscotch. Unfortunately, it's all a little too watery, thin, and mild.

Mouthfeel: Similar to my complaints about the taste, this one's relatively thin, and a little too well-carbonated, though that could be more a result of the thickness of the body than the carbonation level.

Drinkability: I wasn't terribly impressed with this one. A lot of the right notes were here, but they really need to be brought into the forefront. Take it up a few notches, make things a little thicker, more pungent, and you'd have a solid, enjoyable Scottish Ale.

Consumed vom Fass at Blue Ridge Brewing Company on 02.02.07...

Dark mocha brown in color. Little head retention in the first pint, but the second was better. Aromas of roasted goodness and almost a bittersweet chocolate essence both in the nose and on the palate. Very smooth and palatable, this one is hardly overbearing in the richness department, yet it satisfies the craving for a darker brew in the winter time. Very solid offering by Jay at BRBC...

Prosit!

It seems that I'm the second person to rate this beer, and I got it in a growler trade from the first. It pours dark brown and slightly cloudy with an impressive head for a beer poured from a growler. There is a good malt aroma that comes off this beer. It is sweet tasting, but not overwhelmingly sweet like some other Scottish ales I've had. It has a detectable hop bitterness but not too much. The mouthfeel is pretty light; lighter than I would expect for the sweetness. This would be a decent session beer, although it is a bit high in the ABV department for that.

On tap now at Blue Ridge. Pours a nice clear brown, with minimal head, some lacing. Smell was very malty, sweet earthy tones, and fresh smelling. The taste was about the same, caramel malts, with earth tones, no hint of alcohol, nicely rounded. Another quality offering from Blue Ridge, these guys are really getting on the ball lately, they may become a force to be dealt with(in a good way!)
