reviewed from notes from a couple years ago, this was the old mad hatter that was still on the menu as a seasonal last year and still on the website so maybe one day it shall come back. serve in a pint glass.

pour is a dark amber color with a small and compact head that yields no ground. intreresting as it is much hazier then i would have thought and the color really makes it look like it has some nice legs to it. aroma is a touch off. wet hay and a touch of clove or nutmeg? something was a touch off here as the deep caramel malts and sweetness was cut with something that seemed to give it an odd profile. this carried right over into the flavor again which started out with a sweet malty backbone and light earthy hops that seeme to be undercut by something, again not sure what, but just odd. smooth finish, light an easy drinking.

overall not a bad beer at all, but needed some tweeking.

Very nicely done rendition of this style by Jay at the Blue Ridge Brewing Company. This version, eft unfiltered oddly enough, came our deep and rich, almost toffee in color. Aromas huge on roasted malty goodness with faint floral hops, just as it should be. Smooth and flavorful on the palate, this is pretty spot on as far as sweetness for its style. Nice finish as well. Fantastic job on this one. A true session beer.

Prosit!

Beer poured a nice copper color with a nice head that dissappeared rather quickly. That was the most dissapointing part of the beer.
Beer had nice spiciness with a nice malt content and great hop balance. Slight undertones of cinnamon and pepper were present with caramel and a nutty flavor. A strong beer by SC standards, with the alchohol cap and all.
There was not much in the way of aroma. A little nuttiness and maltiness were about all there was.
I think the weather may need to be a little colder for me to enjoy this next time, but a good beer nevertheless.
