enjoyed many times over the years this was always one i looked forward to when i saw it on tap. served in a pint glass.
pour is a nice hazelnut color, a bit darker but some light is peaking through with a nice and even head of light tan that fades and leaves a broken and rocky crown across the top of the glass. aroma is light tea and herbal notes, earthy with loads of grain and sweet notes of caramel and bready grains. little thin on the feel as all their brews tend to be but it was not horribly distracting in any way. smooth and mellow caramel and earthy hops led the way out and a light dry finish begged for another sip.
overall a solid brown ale that you really can not say too many bad things about, would make a good year round.

On tap at the brewpub in a shaker pint. In the somewhat dim lighting, the body is an indeterminate shade of brown. The finger or so of head slowly condenses into a modest creamy and shiny layer of foam. Several rings of lacing form on the top third of the glass.
Nice clean nose, crisp toasted and roasted malts with a touch of fruitiness in the background. A burst of tangy fruit up front transitions to drier nutty and toasted flavors midswallow. Perhaps a tiny dash of cocoa in there. A touch of sweetness and a quick hit of citrus sneak in at the swallow. Finishes pretty clean with lingering toasted notes. The lowish carbonation seems to land this beer on the heavier side of medium-bodied. Fairly creamy as well.
Overall impression: An enjoyable, well-focused offering from Blue Ridge. Easy recommendation.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body with a scant, off-white head.
Smell: Ah, humble brown maltiness! Toasted nuts and slight spicy hop notes.
Taste: Brown malts with a subdued sweetness and a hint of dark caramel. Mild bitterness and just a touch of roast temper the sweetness. Nutty throughout and even moreso on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Somewhat mild carbonation.
Drinkability: A pleasant enough, easy drinking beer that's perfect for washing down lunch.
