On tap in a small glass at the brewpub on 9/17/12
A) Very dark brown with some haziness. The thin head skims quickly. A few webs of lace thicken over time.
S) Deep, roasty grain aroma. Wheat pairs well with the dark roast. Hints of bitter cocoa with a touch of tangy roast as well.
T) The taste is very dry with with dark roast and a distinctive wheat tanginess. Very faint cocoa dusting on the finish.
M) Carbonation is moderate but it's still too much for the thin body.
O) Not terrible but not all that impressive. The feel is weak and it needs more depth of flavor.

Served at the source from tap into an imperial pint. Poured a dark yellow-orange brown with a half finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, nutty, banana, clove, and spice. The flavor was of sweet malt, bread, banana, nutty, and spice. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. There were a lot of the normal players going on in this one for the style, however nothing really stood out on my palate. The alcohol is a little higher than most in this style at 7.5%, but there is no sign of it. When I heard imperial I expected this one to knock me off my feet with flavor. It just fell a little short in my opinion. Decided to have their Little Willie Barleywine after instead, good choice. Tick.
