Presentation: Recently sampled at Philippe II, which is situated in the quiet town Philippeville, itself in the province of Namur, Belgium.
250ml brown glass bottle. Just has a main label which is red, white, black and gold. Has the words La Houlette Bière de Confrerie above a picture of a crate of beer and Drover chap rambling with his walking staff; the two pictures spliced by an angled red & white band that has the word Florennes on it. Listed at 6.0% ABV.
Appearance: Fare golden body with a faded yellow tinge. Off-white colored head with a healthy stamina. Average conditioning, with visible streamers in the clear body. A decent enough street walker.
Smell: Sweet malts with a little input from some apples and pears. Healthy nose has a nice overall quality but it has a rather staid aroma overall.
Taste: A basic brew overall, with a mild earthy feel to the bitterness. Malt dominated start which soon pulls through with some bitterness from the hops. Gentle with some dry spritzy apple in the back end and a citric lemon soft tingle. Dry finish, yet still a little sweet.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, the conditioning is smooth and the finely dissolved carbonation is soft to the tongue. Middling.
Drinkability: An average Blond that has some redeeming features but is not that much to get excited about.
Overall: Standard fare, just another Du Bocq brew that could well be a re-labeled offering, I suspect it is, some say it is a re-badged St. Moinette brew, who knows - what I do know is that this is nothing special.
