Very much not retired.
Beautiful blonde beer

75 cl bottle, 6,5%abv
Opaque, gazet pale golden colour, 3 finger white head, good retention
Medium highly carbonated
Small bubble

"Yeasting in the bottle"

Smell, light field flowers, some fresh hoppey edges

Perfect balanced medium bodied smooth mouth feel, dry

Taste, lovely hoppey bitterness, some flowery notes, a little herbal, but nothing too dominating.

Perfectly balanced blonde.

Presentation: Recently sampled at Les Armes de Philippeville, which is situated in the quiet town Philippeville, itself in the province of Namur, Belgium.

250ml bottle with a light brown colored main and neck label. The main label lists the brew as “Cuvée Li Crochon” with the picture of a Stork on it. Neck label has the word ‘Blonde’ on it as well. No freshness date but a listed strength on 6.8%.

Appearance: Medium golden body with a faded yellow tinge. Off-white colored head with a healthy stamina. Average conditioning, with visible streamers in the clear body. Decent looks.

Smell: Sweet malts with a little input from some apples and pears. Healthy nose has a nice overall quality.

Taste: Malt dominated start which soon pulls through with some bitterness from the hops. Gentle citric feel with some dry spritzy apple in the back end. Dry finish, yet still a little sweet. Basic brew with a mild earthy feel to the bitterness. Clean profile.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, the conditioning is smooth and the finely dissolved carbonation is soft to the tongue.

Drinkability: An average Blond that has some redeeming features but is not that much to get excited about.

Overall: Standard fare, just another Du Bocq brew that could well be a re-labeled offering, I suspect it is, some say it is a re-badged St. Moinette brew, who knows - what I do know is that this is nothing special.

Bottling lot # 132576...

Appearance: darkish amber, good clarity, thick layer of foam develops but then turns sudsy and dissipates

Aroma: malty sweet, dark dried fruit, brown sugar, clove and cinnamon, hops, alcohol

Flavor: round malt sweetness cut by a slight dark malt bitterness, mild acidity, touch of herbal hop flavor, a touch earthy, finish is semi-sweet with a slight bitterness lingering in the brown-sugar aftertaste

Mouthfeel: medium body, zesty carbonation, alcohol warmth

Overall Impression: One of those commissioned beers you find in the supermarket all of a sudden but you've never heard of. That being said, it's also pegged right in that mediocrity that is generally associated with these beers. It's all right, but nothing special. Tasting it once is enough.
