Ruby with moderate carbonation, looking pretty filtered on the first pour, topped with only half a finger of beige head.

Smells of creme brulee, scotch, caramel and toffee. Very malt forward, not getting any alcohol.

Sweet and malty, caramelised sugar, creme brulee, some burnt notes on the end. Hints of scotch, really reminiscent of a wee heavy.

Moderate body, moderate carbonation.

Got this one in July of 2015 in Bangkok, drinking it in Chiang Mai January 31st, 2017. It went with me on my epic voyage to Harbin before returning to CNX where it has cellared for a year and a half. Honestly, I was thinking it would be like Fullers version as the packaging would lead one to believe. Its decent, hides the alcohol well, and has a great box.

Bottle shared at August THT. Clear dark caramel pour with a thin offwhite head. Notes of dried fruit, boiled malts, sugar.

Pours mahogany with a small head that leaves some spotty lacing. Nose is musty/dusty with some sweet burnt sugars in the background. Taste is lightly sweet malt with some date syrup fruits, but is somewhat lacking. Mouthfeel is weak for the style. Overall, very small for a big beer, although looking at the few previous reviews, it seems a little age has made it drinkable at least.

A: Very dark amber body with an off-white head.
S: Vinous, cakey, and a bit of a metallic malt smell.
T: Has a weirdly chalky mouthfeel. Lots of honey and quite cakey, but too dry for a beer of this style. It tastes a bit cheap, and it's a touch on the sour side.
O: Having read the previous review it seems mine as attenuated a bit too much. Did not enjoy this beer at all but it's Batemans, and they're not one of Britain's premier breweries.

Bottle. Reviewed 2022. Cellared for 9 years. Amber with a thin dense and creamy head. Slight haze .
Orange and toffee smell. Some sugar barley and leather.
The taste is a mellow version of the aroma. Crème brulé and wood. The harsh sweet taste that was present when I drank it fresh has dispersed
Quite a soft feel and pretty full in body.
Has improved with age

Drank from my Mane liquor tulip.

A - Pours a clear dark copper colour with an off white head that reduces quick

S - Sweet molasses and sugar malt

T - Same as aromas except some burnt sugars

M - Medium to full body with low carbonation

O - This beer should not be drank fresh. Instead put down for at least five years when the sugars will reduce. In its current form this beer is way too sweet
