Pours with a deep amber body, some mahogany hues. Creamy off white head (half an inch thick), good retention, lots of lacing

Smell, malt, a fair whiff of sweet esters, some fragrant hops

Taste, thick english hops. Hops are followed by a thick malt kick, slight diacytel, some lasting english hop bitterness on the finish

A tasty ale, very good on cask

Serving Type: On cask at Wetherspons beer festival

Appearance: Dark amber with a nice white head and excellent lacing

Smell: Deep malty aroma with hints of caramel and maybe bitter dark chocolate

Flavour: Malts come through strongly followed by a nice hop finish. Again caramel and chocolaty flavours come through

Overall: Very nice beer on cask and well recommended

This beer is brewed to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the VE Day and one of 50+ ales in the Wetherspoon's Beerfest in May. Given that it costs only 1.49pounds for a pint and my drink happens to be the first pint after the cellarman changed the barrel, I am very thankful indeed.

Appearance: served in a straight pint glass, it pours a clear, dark-amber or light copper colour, with a restrained thin head which somehow manages to stay throughout the drink, and beautiful lace is left along the way.
Smell: at first, the nose is dominated by inconsiderable, mild malty note; after a while, grape/raisin fruity scent gradually comes out--understated but pleasant.
Taste & Aftertaste: quite mild hay-like hoppy and grassy-rooty taste at first...followed by faint but pleasant savour of dried-cherries; finished with very intensive bitterness in the throat, a bit like that of crushed grape-seeds(?).
Mouthfeel & Drinkability: the overall structure is a bit floating (not very settled and clear at best) and the mouthfeel is quite light and interesting. I wouldn't say it's my cup of tea but it's by all means a quaffable and refreshing bitter.
