I purchased this beer from the Aldi store in Inverness.
The beer poured an amber brown colour with a decent white head, this settled to a 3mm film which displayed very good retention for a bottled beer, even leaving signs of lacing on the glass.
The aroma is one of the best I have ever experienced in a beer. A very well balanced nose of caramel, figs, nuttiness, barley and some bitter berry notes, although these are faint.
It is a bit of a shame that these do not follow through to the taste. A bland taste on the mouth. Some faint notes of barley and a slightly spicy and dry aftertaste. This really is disappointing after such a promising start.
A medium bodied beer that was drinkable and at 4.2% is certainly a good session ale. But I feel that there was so much potential from the fragrances that the overall feeling was of disappointment. Not a horrible taste, just very bland and boring.

I don't normally 'do' organic, but because this is a Bateman's beer I felt duty bound to try it.
Brown 500ml bottle, best before mid Apr 2008, drank late March 2007.
Poured into a Frankenheim Alt 0.2 litre straight glass two and a half times. It was a light copper, amber colour with a small white head on each pour.
Smells of an English country garden, sweet pea being the overiding aroma, very floral indeed. Is this anything to do with the fact that it is made with organically grown hops and barley? I don't know, but it smells sweeter than anything else Bateman's produce (in my opinion). The label says it smells of freshly harvested grain, but it doesn't to me. Toffee apples can be added to the sweet peas as the beer warms in the glass.
The taste isn't as exciting as the aroma, bitterness with a hint of pink grapefruits, but there is nothing to much in the taste at all.
Mouthfeel is almost watery, a slight bitterness and citrus flavour clings to the back of your throat, but again there isn't much of anything.
I love Bateman's beers normally, this one however is not up to their normal standards in my eyes'.
